HAPPY EARTH DAY

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

As we celebrate Earth Day, we recognize that the health of our planet is tied to our collective actions as citizens. At the heart of environmental protection lies civic engagement, the active participation of individuals and communities in shaping the decisions that affect their lives and their environment. Whether through grassroots activism, community organizing or political advocacy, we the people play a vital role in driving positive change. Advocating for policies that prioritize environmental sustainability and holding our leaders accountable is possible by engaging with elected officials, participating in public hearings and making our vote count in elections.

At Alabama Forward, the Table has organizations with an environmental focus doing this kind of work daily:

  • Energy Alabama – advocating for #sustainableenergy in Alabama
  • Greater Birmingham Alliance to Stop Pollution (GASP) – enhancing the health and wellbeing of Alabamians by reducing air pollution, advancing environmental justice and promoting climate solutions through education, advocacy and collaboration
  • Alabama Rivers Alliance – working to protect and restore all of Alabama’s natural water resources through building partnerships, empowering citizens and advocating for sound water policy and its enforcement
  • Hometown Organizing Project – aiming to build a working class, multiracial and trans/queer affirming movement to advance racial, gender, economic and climate justice in rural, small town and working class Alabama

On this Earth Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to protecting our planet and promoting the principles of civic engagement and democracy. Let us seize the opportunity to make a positive impact and leave a legacy of environmental stewardship for generations to come. Visit the websites of these organizations to learn more about their missions, work and how you can get involved in making a difference as a steward of this planet.
