A new documentary about the role that Lowndes County, Alabama played in building power for Black communities in the South will be released next month on December 2. Directed by Sam Pollard and Geeta Gandbhir, the film showcases archival footage alongside first person accounts to tell an important but overlooked piece of history.
As the description for the film says, “This isn’t a story of hope but of action,” because despite the racial terror and the fact that no Black people in the county had been able to register to vote, the people fought back. Young, Black organizers came together and demanded not only access to the ballot box, but for actual Black Power.
The film will be released in select theaters on December 2, so check your local listings. But if it’s not showing in your area, it will also be available on Amazon and Apple TV. Get more information from Greenwich Entertainment.
