Ways to Get Help in Alabama on Election Day

As a voter this election day, it is important for you to know your rights. You should be able to cast your ballot no matter what. If you are facing long lines, stay in line. If your polling location is closing, stay in line. If you’re turned away because a poll worker challenges your voter status, don’t leave until you can cast a provisional ballot.

Thankfully, numerous Alabama-based voting rights advocates are working to provide rides to the polls and to staff various hotlines to help resolve issues at the polls.

If you have any questions or concerns about having your vote count, call the national Election Protection hotline 866-OUR-VOTE or the Alabama Election Protection Network at 844-4ALVOTE.

Voters can call or text these hotlines to get in touch with a trained volunteer about issues ranging from where your polling place is to impediments at the polls. There are also language assistance hotlines available for non-English speaking citizens.

If you need help getting to your polling place, here are some of the ways you can find a ride.

  • Alabama NAACP is offering free rides by calling their office at 256-444-1300 or 256-426-6406.
  • Lift Our Vote is offering rides by calling 256-701-4182 to request a ride in the following areas: Baldwin, Bullock, Calhoun, Chilton, Clarke, Coffee, Covington, Dallas, Elmore, Escambia, Etowah, Geneva, Jefferson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Lee, Limestone, Macon (Tuskegee), Madison, Mobile, Morgan, Pickens, Pike, Russell, Shelby, Talladega, and Tuscaloosa.
  • Lyft is offering discounts on Election Day. Riders will be able to use a code for a discount of up to $10 by using VOTE22, which can be activated in the Lyft app.
  • Rollin’ to the Polls offers free rides in Autauga, Elmore, and Montgomery counties by calling 334-223-4983.

Local organizations are also offering information about the ballot amendments you can vote on, and what a yes or no vote would mean. Learn more at the links below.

Organizations working to provide support through these services include Alabama Forward, ACLU of Alabama, Alabama Arise, Alabama Election Protection Network, Black Women’s Roundtable, Hometown Organizing Project, Lawyers Committee for Civil Right Under Law, Legal Defense Fund, League of Women’ Voters of Alabama, Lift Our Vote, NAACP Alabama State Conference, Rollin to the Polls, Stand Up Mobile, The Ordinary People’s Society, and United Women of Color.
